Day 0, After Cleaning, Prior to Suturing - After cleaning the ear laceration, we discovered it was much more severe than we had originally thought. Both sides of the ear had been lacerated through the skin and the cartilage.

It took precise suturing and a very steady hand, but by the end of the repairing process, the patient’s ear was looking much better. Over 50 tiny sutures were placed to make sure the sutures apposed the tissue together.

The sutures were left in for 3 weeks instead of the usual 10 to 14 days because ears do not heal as well as other areas of the body. This is due the high mobility of the area and lack of muscle coverage.
