OUR HISTORY
Davie County Large Animal Hospital was originally called Mocksville Animal Clinic. Mocksville Animal Clinic was established by
Dr. Clyde Young in 1941 as a mixed animal practice.
After graduating from Texas A&M’s College Of Veterinary Medicine in 1988, Dr. James E. Meeker returned to North Carolina and purchased Dr. Clyde Young’s practice. After a short time practicing mixed animal medicine, Dr. Meeker turned the practice into an all large animal practice with an emphasis on equine patients.
In 1993 Dr. Meeker built the first Davie County Large Animal Hospital, a 5000 sq. ft. facility dedicated to the care and treatment of large animal patients. The first large animal hospital was built near I-40 just off of Farmington Road directly behind what was then an Ace Hardware Store.
Due to surrounding real estate development and the addition of second and third veterinarians, the original facility was sold and the current 7000 sq. ft. facility was built and completed in January of 2002.
