Multifragmented fracture of the mandible and facial nerve paralysis

Against all odds, this brave horse made an incredible comeback after being hit by a car! Despite a diagnosis of bilateral, multi-fragmented mandible fractures, eyelid laceration and facial nerve paralysis, our dedicated team at Davie County Large Animal Hospital provided surgical repair, laser therapy, and acupuncture to aid in the recovery process.

Tracheal Tear/Rupture

This horse was referred to DCLAH. He had an accident causing him to hit his neck against a door. Upon arrival, he had severe respiratory distress and generalized subcutaneous emphysema. Dr. Castro performed an emergency tracheotomy.  A tracheoscopy revealed two tears in the trachea. With a definitive diagnosis, Dr. Castro established a conservative treatment plan. After 17 days, the torn sites were healing along with the tracheostomy!
