Multifragmented fracture of the mandible and facial nerve paralysis after being hit by a car!
📋CASE SUMMARY:
History: Hit by car
Diagnosis:
1️⃣ Bilateral, multifragmented mandibular fractures
2️⃣ Facial nerve paralysis
3️⃣ Wound to the left guttural pouch area and eyelid laceration
TREATMENT APPROACH:
Dr. Castro utilized a combination of conservative measures and advanced therapies to aid in the recovery of this brave patient.
🔸 Surgical Repair: Local anesthesia administered prior to suturing the lacerations in a simple interrupted pattern. Drain placement for reduction or swelling.
🔸 Laser Therapy: Performed at the surgical site to reduce swelling and promote healing.
🔸 Acupuncture: A complementary therapy used to aid in the recovery of facial nerve paralysis.
UPDATE: Recheck Results
Good news! The wounds healed without issue and facial nerve paralysis gradually improved. The horse also regained his appetite and normal eating habits, indicating healing of the fractures.
